San Antonio Metropolitan Ministries (SAMM)
On any given night in San Antonio there will be several thousand people without a place to call home. SAMM exists to help these people. Jesus said we could help the poor whenever we wanted to. SAMM is one means of helping. The overnight shelter is not the only ministry of SAMM. Through its Transitional Life and Learning Center SAMM helps people to rebuild their lives in lasting ways. SAMM is now on the Haven For Hope campus. There it provides services alongside dozens of other helping agencies. Opportunities for you to help the poor abound at SAMM and Haven.
Serving Opportunities Outside the Church
'For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'

"Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and  feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison, and go to visit you?'

"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'

Haven For Hope
One of the problems for homeless folks and others with needs in many metropolitan areas is that the services they need are scattered all over the city. Haven For Hope  brings together dozens of helping agencies on one campus. Here, people loved by Jesus can find help for medical, dental and vision needs, food, clothes and shelter, as well as job training and other assistance. There are lots of opportunities for volunteers at Haven’s variety of ministries.
Inman Christian Center
Inman has been around since 1913. Its mission is to empower children, youth, elderly and families to develop to their full physical, mental and spiritual potential. Inman is always looking for volunteers to help with a wide variety of ministries. Last year volunteers gave over 5,000 hours of service to God and his people through Inman Christian Center. Could you add to this?
Austin Academy Elementary
This inner city elementary school is just down the street from Central. We have a long and loving relationship with the students and staff there. Each year we host a Christmas party for kids from Austin. We buy presents through our Angel tree for these kids when their families otherwise could not. We also have a long-standing Mentoring Program with kids at the school. Adults from Central become friends and encouragers to kids from Austin Academy. Could you be a mentor?
CROP Walk
People all around the world need help as they struggle through hard times brought on by disasters both natural and human-made. The CROP Walk each Spring raises money to help people and communities around the world rebuild after times of destruction and loss. CROP partners with agencies all over the globe to bring resources, justice and hope into peoples’ lives. If you can walk or roll or simply give and pray, you can help CROP.
Central's members toured the Haven for Hope facilities before it fully opened. There are many volunteer opportunities at Haven for Hope.
The December 2009 Austin Academy Christmas party served many families, thanks to the help of our own Santa and Santa's Elves!
Central's Benevolent Sewing Group sews clothing, bibs, and quilts for the children served by the Inman Christian Center.
Battered Women’s Shelter
Domestic violence is never okay. This shelter exists to help free people from the pain this violence causes. We support the Shelter both with our prayers and our finances.
Christian Assistance Ministry (CAM)
CAM exists to fulfill the expectation of Jesus stated in Matthew 25 that the church will help “the least of these”. When people need help with food, clothing or limited financial assistance CAM can be their answer. There are many volunteer opportunities at CAM. Volunteers work to sort clothes, fill food baskets or interview folks in need, and just be a friendly listening ear. If you feel called to help people in need then come to CAM.
Central Christian Church 2010 CROP walkers have raised $2,500.00 so far!
