Central Christian Church Disciples of Christ

We are a congregation of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). We join with about 4,000 congregations in 32 regions across the United States and Canada. We believe that each Christian is responsible for reading the Bible, praying and seeking the guidance of God the Holy Spirit for developing their own understanding of what it means to be a Christian and follow Jesus Christ. Our beliefs at Central are the same as for most Disciples of Christ congregations.

We believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God. We accept him as our Lord and Savior. This means that we understand Jesus Christ to be fully human and fully God. Salvation comes only through him. This is the foundational statement of belief for Disciples.

We believe that God is our Creator. God’s love for us is absolute and will never change or fade or be taken from us. Nothing will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

We believe in God the Holy Spirit. He is present with us always to guide us, help us and empower us for living in this world.

We believe that the Bible is the inspired and fully reliable word of God. It was written through the Lord’s apostles and prophets as they were inspired and directed by God the Holy Spirit.

We believe that the Church is the Body of Christ. This means that though the church is a human organization, God lives within the church universal and empowers us for his work in the world. We believe the church holds the greatest hope for the world. We believe that everyone can find friendship, hope, wholeness, meaning and life within the Body of Christ, the Church.

We believe in two ordinances, some call these sacraments, in the church.

Baptism – We immerse in water when we baptize following confession of faith in Jesus as Lord (see Becoming a Christian). We also accept the baptisms and confirmations of other denominations and groups if that has meaning for a person coming to join Central.

Communion – We celebrate communion each week during our worship. Many call this the Lord’s Table or Eucharist. We have an open table meaning that anyone who accepts Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior can share in communion.
